Russell Falls at the entrance to Mt Field National Park is one of the most well-known images of Tasmania’s wilderness. In 1900, the 4d Tasmanian Pictorial stamp issue featured Russell Falls, based on a photo by the pioneering Tasmanian Photographer, J. W. Beattie. We have used the Artists pen and ink essay( only one example known), based on the Beattie photo as the basis for this cover.

Although well known and drawing visitors for many years before it became officially  proclaimed, Mt Field (and surrounding highlands ) was made Tasmania’s first National Park, along with the Freycinet Peninsular in 1916.
